When discussing winder performance, capacity, quality, or automation, safety is often assumed to be "good enough."

But is it really?

Many winders operating today were originally designed and commissioned years, or even decades ago. During that time, safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices have evolved significantly.

As a result, hazardous areas that were once considered acceptable may no longer meet today's expectations.

Examples include:

  • Slitting and trim knife areas, where operators and maintenance personnel work in close proximity to extremely sharp blades.

  • Front splicing operations, where personnel are required to work near the pulling nip between the front drum and the roll set, creating a potentially hazardous situation if adequate safety procedures are not in place.

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting activities, which may require personnel to work close to moving equipment, rotating components, or stored energy sources.

  • Operator intervention areas, where routine production tasks may expose personnel to risks that have gradually become accepted as normal operating practice.
